DIEU (French for "God") humbly came into existence after the demise of MINIONS, another instrumental band I was in at the time.
If I backtrack a bit, I remember something felt off with Minions after failing to record our first official demo. We tried to spice things up with a new configuration with two bass players, including Alexis from GRAND CERF. Shortly after, the other bass playerJC AlienSeeD left the band (and music altogether) for good, leaving Alexis, Tristan on drums and I (still on keyboards/samplers) scratching our collective heads. Around the same time, I'd been kicking in the idea of doing something with an old friend from work, Philippe, who was working as a sound engineer for a French TV channel I was writing for. I knew he was into Magma and prog stuff and a very talented guitar player too. The four of us rehearsed a few times, then Tristan was out of the band. We decided to keep going, using drum samples instead. I'm really happy with the resulting demo, which was built from song ideas I'd come up with, mainly using samples or keyboard leads, spiked up with the weirdest ideas and the amazing talent that Philippe and Alexis brought to the project. |
