You know why I love mixtapes so much? Actual cassette tapes? These little plastic rectangles are there for the long run. They're not fleeting or intangible like your typical YouTube playlist or hard drive filled with MP3s that will never be sorted nor listened to. Mixtapes are concrete, they're there, they're yours and it doesn't matter if you don't listen to the whole thing at once, eventually you will, headphones on, and some of the tracks on the tape that didn't catch your fancy at first will literally jump at you and transfix your life.
It happened to me early on today with a tape I got  last year for Round 6 of the Metal Punk Tape Exchange. Last song on side A was "Urgence" by Finnish instrumental prog/math rock (genre please??) NYOS. I'd listened to it before with maybe something else on my mind and did not pay attention. And then, today, all hell broke loose when I gave this tape a proper listenting session... and now I wonder how I managed to skip this album and this band for so long. Had I known about it earlier it'd have jumped right on top of my years end list of favourites! It is so intense, dramatic and catchy, please listen to it at full volume with headphones on!! And it's a 'name your price' download too!
